Lend Me Your Ears - Just Ranting...

I don’t quite understand how people can walk around everywhere with their cellphone earpiece attached like they are somehow born equipped with it already. I think they are wonderful inventions but I also think that people tend to go overboard with such things.

I mean – voicemails are meant to catch missed calls, right? Is it always that important that we have to carry it everywhere? I know that I completely get annoyed with people that instantly pick up their calls in the middle of our conversation. I get annoyed with people that talk to their cell speakerphone in public. And I certainly get annoyed with people that doesn’t turn off or lower their ringers in places such as restaurants, theatres, library etc. What happened to etiquettes?

For instance, this weekend I was grocery shopping and there was a Mom and Dad with their toddler sitting in the cart. Both parents were sporting their bluetooth earpieces. The Dad was walking behind the Mom and Toddler while talking loudly and animatedly with obviously a good buddy about the ongoing Soccer World Cup on the phone. As the Mom busied herself with the shopping list, her cellphone rang and she automatically picked up her call. She laughed her way throughout the aisle with someone on the phone with her baby just sitting. On their way out the grocery store, I overheard the Mom telling her husband “I’m so glad we took her out to shop with us, she’s been so cooped up inside the house, and I noticed that she was soooo bored”. Huh? Pfft! I on the other hand was way to nosy to be noticing, maybe I need one of those earpieces to keep me occupied and mind my own business. hehe

So what's your take on this earpiece matter?

Well since I did not have a cell phone until last month, I really do not see the need to have it everywhere. Half the time my toddler has to tell it is ringing, I am so used to thinking it is not mine!!!

I get that some people are on call or whatever but others totally need to walk away from the phone!

And they criticize computer users!! pfft!

Love your new look! Please, here in Silicon Valley, those Bluetooths are just like wearing earrings, just another accessory.
And they are sooo annoying! No lady, I don't want to hear your sales call and I don't want to hear about your friend Becky that just got dumped! Talk in private and leave your blue mouth at home!

I have always thought that those ear pieces make people look like something out of a Star Trek movie. Now don't get me wrong I do believe that they are a good invention for those people that feel the need to chat while driving....something that I still take issue with...but as for wearing them 24/7 to me it's totally unnecessary.

As for phones and talking in public...well I might be one of those ladies at the grocery store you are talking about cause I did pick up my phone when it rings...or at least look at the caller ID to see if it's someone important. That's just me though.

I think we're all bound to have little chips in our heads before we know it.

I think the earpieces are completely annoying as well.

I also get totally irritated by my parents who refuse to take their ringer off during dinner. My brother still lives at home and has his teenage friends calling him every 5 minutes. So during dinner, they are constantly up and down to the phone, basically acting as his phone service since he's never home. I have pleaded with them to turn the damn ringer off, but they just. won't. do it. ANNOYING!

I agree, it annoys me too. I can't talk in public, I feel rude. When I must I whisper, and the person I'm talking to usually says....why are you whispering???

My boss is the worst offender. Her phone is set to ring as loud as possible anywhere and she answers it regardless. In the office, out in public walking through the office on speakerphone. When she gets back to her office she calls them back on her landline and talks as loud as possible on speakerphone while everyone here can hear.

I've got to get a new job.

It's totally annoying. I talk on one only while driving. I hate sharing my business with the public.

This must be a hot topic, because this is the third post today I've seen about ear pieces (and everyone is in agreement with you!)

I remember my mom and I were with my kids at an amusement park and she suddenly started talking and I was like, "WTF?"

She, of course, was wearing an earpiece. I thought she'd lost it, lol.

Count me in too! I think those walking around in public with the bluetooth thingys look like borgs from Star Trek. I think they should make them illegal out in public. They are a great invention for the car, where no one else can hear your conversation.

I can't tell you the number of times I have turned around because I thought someone was talking to me.

I am guilty of talking on the cell at the grocery store though. It never fails that DH will call wanting something while I am out.

Great site! Just found it!

~ To everyone that commented- I'm so glad I'm not the only one all weirded out with this accesory.

Btw - I have nothing against people talking on their cellphone in the supermarket -- I was merely pointing out that the phone has replaced a lot of things already in front of us that needs more attention.
